Our ingredients from Brazil

Açaí
More than a fruit, Açaí has been a pillar of Amazonian culture for centuries. At harvest time, Amazonian peoples climb the palm trees to pick the dark blue berries of Açaí. A precious oil with emollient properties is extracted from this small fruit. Its very fruity and sweet aroma brings joy and energy. The Açaí used by Natura Brasil is certified organic.

Castanha
The Castanha, or Brazil nut, is the fruit of a tree called the castanheira. Magnificent and abundant, it is seen as the king of the forest. The nuts used in our products are harvested by two traditional communities: RECA in the Rondônia region and Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável do Rio Iratapuru in the Pará region, where we find the largest areas of castanheiras in the Amazon. It is harvested according to the principles of sustainable forest management and is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. Once harvested, these nuts are traditionally grated and pressed into a nutritious milk which is the staple food of Amazonian communities. An oil with emollient properties is also extracted from the castanha, which is used in the Ekos Castanha line.

Maracujá
The Maracujá, an enchanting freshness. Originally from the Atlantic Forest, the Maracujá, or passion fruit, is a fruit appreciated by local communities for its fresh and tangy taste. This fruit is picked directly from the plant, ready to be eaten. In the indigenous Tupi language, its name means food prepared in a gourd, referring to the delicious seeds and the shape of its peel. Traditionally known for its nutritional properties, this yellow fruit, filled with juicy pulp and seeds, is a real delight. The Maracujá used by Natura is supplied by the APROCOR and CAMTA communities. The oil extracted from the seeds of the fruit is used in the Ekos Maracujá product range.

Cacao
The cocoa tree is native to the Atlantic Rainforests. The development of its fruit, the Cacao, depends on the amount of shade provided by other trees, and thus helps to preserve the native forest. Without fertilizers or pesticides, its cultivation is certified organic. The beans contained in the fruit are extracted by the Cabruca community, they are then dried, roasted and pressed to obtain the precious Cocoa butter. This butter, rich in omega 9, known for its emollient and moisturising properties, is used in the Ekos Cacao product range.
