Advice after colouring your hair
Does colouring dehydrate coily hair? Here are 5 tips to keep it healthy!
Don't be afraid of change. With the right care, you can change your look without damaging your hair.
Gone are the days when straightening was the only option for coily hair, and that conflicted with other hair procedures such as colouring.
With technological advances and a focus on healthy hair and changing hairstyles, there are endless possibilities of colours and shades for anyone who wants to colour their coily hair. But remember: beautiful hair is healthy hair, regardless of its colour or structure.
Tip 1: strand test
To avoid accidents, you absolutely must do a strand test before applying any product to your entire head of hair. Contrary to popular belief, coily hair is sensitive and breaks easily. If you have relaxed it, you need to be extra careful.
Tip 2: Hydrate!
As a basic rule of thumb for all hair types, hydration is your best friend for preventing colour damage and keeping your colour for longer. Look for products made from plant based oils, like the Murumuru Care Mask, which features Murumuru butter and helps to sculpt fabulous curls in the shower. Create your own beauty routine: whether it's weekly, twice a week or monthly. There are lots of tips for hydrating coily hair.
Tip 3: The right product
The type of dye used will also affect any damage your hair may undergo during a chemical process. Semi-permanent dyes are generally more suitable for coily hair as they have less or no ammonia. On the other hand, they can only change hair by up to two tones and don't work on hair that is already coloured.
Tip 4: Repair
If you coily hair has lost its colour, remember this word and add it to your hair care routine: repair. This process restores capillary fibres that have been damaged during an aggressive chemical process and strengthens hair for future colourings. There are specific masks available, like Murumuru concentrated butter to be used with the Murumuru care mask for intensive repair.
Tip 5: Protect your hair from the sun
Sunscreen should be your skin and hair's best friend, especially in summer. Go for a leave-in product that protects your hair from the sun and the effects of chlorine and sea water, which accelerate colour loss. Remember that coily hair is naturally more dehydrated and needs to be washed less often. Make the most of it!
